Friends...and coincidences.

After water, food and shelter look after the basic things in life, what comes next to add to our enjoyment of it?

I would say it is those we love but very quickly after that I would say "friends". I am blessed with many good ones that show strongly-forged relationships from my first day at primary school, through my adolescence, most places that I have lived to my wide group of today - and I hope to make more in the future.

Since I have started this blog I have been delighted to have received messages from lots of people that in the past I called friends or in some cases colleagues. People whose company I enjoyed, and then because life is a moving feast, I or they moved into new jobs or places. If you have been one of them "Thank you" it has been great to hear from you. If you were thinking of saying "Hello" please do so.

This reached a new level this week when an old friend/colleague approached me at the end of some crazy Dad-dancing in the hotel bar here in Fuerteventura and said "Hello Mike!"

Steve Watson and I haven't seen each other in more than 20 years but we shared work, friendship, beer and laughs then and have been doing so again. It has been great to catch up on news and events, meet his lovely wife Cheryl, and reminisce about old times. In particular, I have enjoyed discussing and learning about old colleagues and where they are and what they are doing now. If you were part of Girobank in the period when I was around and you are reading this then we have been raising a glass to you. This particularly applies if you were in Sales or the International Division - Happy Days with great people.

What a happy coincidence that we are both in the same place at the same time. As Bogart once said "Of all the gin joints in all the world..."

Thanks for saying "Hello" Steve. Great to meet up again.
