Day 5 +6 - Coasts and Castle

A belated end of trip account of the final two days of this sojourn.

These are pictures of Durham castle - the place of my birth- which stands tall above the river and next to my favourite building in all the world, the magnificent Durham Cathedral.

We travelled from Hexham to Sedgefield today and had dinner with my Mum and Steve’s Dad we live a couple of miles apart. It was great to see them both and experience a bit of family time.

Then we cycled from Teesside across The Valley into Bishop Auckland and to the seat of the Prince Bishops. Though technically not a castle and more of a palace. Still pretty grand though I think you will agree?

From here we travelled to our final Castle at Barnard Castle, now famous as the place to go for a dodgy self eye test if you are a spineless weasel who has no shame and the infinite arrogance to think that the rest of the world are idiots.

We didn’t bother with this but but had a few pints to celebrate a great ride and some nice grub to go with it.

Tired and happy we had really enjoyed a great trip.

Saturday was a blast into Darlington for the train back to Newark-on-Trent, a short care ride back towards Leicester and I dropped Steve for his ride back to Milton Keynes. I had done almost 400 miles in the week and Steve in excess of 500! Well done mate 👏🏼👏🏼.

Another great adventure on two wheels with the guy I have done so many with before - and hope to do more in the future.
